integrate mental health support with physical and lifestyle approaches

Lindsay Gerstmar

Canadian Certified Counsellor

My Story

Lindsay is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology. Alongside her counselling practice, she continues to serve as a Physical Training Instructor with the Calgary Police Service, where, for more than 20 years, she has specialized in strength and conditioning, health, and wellness.

Supporting the health and well-being of members of the Calgary Police Service has given Lindsay a unique appreciation for the impact that shift work, chronic stress, trauma exposure, and demanding careers can have on both mental and physical health. Combined with her background in exercise physiology, these experiences continue to shape her integrative approach to counselling and her belief that lasting change is best supported by caring for both mind and body.

Lindsay works with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, grief, sleep concerns, relationship challenges, and life transitions, as well as adults living with ADHD. She also supports individuals navigating the effects of trauma and occupational stress injuries. Lindsay has a particular interest in working with first responders, healthcare professionals, and others in high-demand occupations, while welcoming adults from all walks of life.

Lindsay takes an integrative, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach to counselling. She believes meaningful change begins with a safe, collaborative, and trusting therapeutic relationship. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s strengths, experiences, and goals, drawing from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and behavioural strategies for sleep, stress management, and sustainable behaviour change. Her goal is for therapy to provide not only insight but also practical skills that clients can confidently apply in their everyday lives.

Outside of counselling, Lindsay enjoys strength training and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Whether mountain biking, snowboarding, camping, golfing, or travelling, she values adventure, movement, and the opportunity to recharge in nature with family and friends.
